|Rehearsal and Recital
|The Recital Performance is an exciting conclusion, celebrating the hard work and accomplishments of our talented students. This will
be their time to shine! Everyone at MBDA works very hard to provide a positive learning, loving and Christian environment for our
students. Below is the information and guidelines to make the entire experience enjoyable for you, our instructors, our dancers, other
family members and all audience members.
Rehearsal and Recital are both held at: St. Paul’s Dr. Monte L. Moorer Theater

FOLLOW THESE STEPS!
1. Dance attire is required (pink or black leotard, pink tights and all dance shoes).
PUT YOUR CHILD'S NAME IN EVERYTHING! (COSTUME, SHOES, SHIRT/SHORTS, EVERYTHING!!!)
2. ARRIVE ON TIME for the correct rehearsal/recital and park in soccer field.
3. Find dressing rooms, sign your child in.
4. Sign your child in and pick up bag for shoes and costume accessories. There will be a tag on the bag with your child's name on it
and which shoes they need to have on first for recital.
5. Leave and run an errand. Go have across the street to Carpe Diem, have a coffee. Take a walk around Springhill College's
campus. Go to Target or Walmart...aka-find something to do. :-)
6. Return at your designated time, refer to the newsletter if you can't remember.
7. If you ordered Recital T-shirts/shorts, pick them up at Rehearsal. There will be a table set up in the auditorium lobby where you
can pick them up. Please put your child's name in the t-shirt and/or shorts so they don't get confused with all the others
that will be in the dressing rooms!
8. Miss Kendra will make announcements.
9. Trophies and Recognitions Awards: To close rehearsal, we will distribute trophies to 5 and 10 year students. Every student
receives a recognition award just for dancing with us. Every student will be called on stage.
10. Parents will be given an opportunity to take a quick photo,and students will be returned to their dressing rooms with their
assistants where their dance bags will be.
11. Do not bring extra bags to recital, only the bags we give you.
Program books will go on sale after announcements and awards.
RECITAL PERFORMANCE & ETIQUETTE
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
WHEN TO ARRIVE AND WHERE TO GO
Dancers will need to arrive 30 minutes prior to the show and proceed to their assigned dressing room in the building behind the
theater. Do not arrive an hour early, you will be sitting outside in the heat waiting for the theater doors to open. The theater doors
will not be opened before 30 minutes prior to recital. The only people that are in the theater at this time are helpers and MBDA staff.
Do not arrive during the previous recital and expect to sit in the theater and wait until the next show. If you do not have a ticket or a
child dancing in both performances, you will be asked to leave.
Dancers should be dressed and ready in their costume for their first recital dance number prior to their designated show start time.
All students must stay in their dressing area until their time to perform. A dance mom or MBDA staff
member will bring them from the dressing room to the backstage area. After the finale dance of the recital is complete, parents will
need to go back to the dressing room to pick up their child. DANCERS ARE TO STAY BACKSTAGE THE ENTIRE TIME.
If you have a preschooler in the 6:30 show. I have arranged for all of their dances to finished by intermission. If you
choose to take your child before the end of the show. You must wait until intermission.
DO NOT ENTER OR EXIT DURING A PERFORMANCE!
Do not leave the theater during the performance unless it is an emergency and/or especially while there are dancers on stage.
Intermission is a wonderful time to chat and use the restroom.
IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE THE RECITAL BEFORE IT IS OVER,
PLEASE BE COURTEOUS AND DO NOT DISTURB GUESTS STAYING FOR THE ENTIRE SHOW.
THE FINALE DANCE
All students of all ages have learned this dance. Your child may wear their costume or the t-shirt/short set if you pre-ordered one. At
the end of this dance, we drop balloons.
The curtains then close, and at this time, you will return to the dressing room to pick up your dancer.
Bring ALL costumes, shoes and accessories to Recital. THERE ARE NO EXTRAS! All costumes, shoes and accessories need to be
labeled with your child's name. There will be many dancers sharing the same dressing room space.
Make sure headpieces are secure so they will not fall off on stage.
NO PANTIES ARE TO BE WORN UNDER TIGHTS! All tights should be hole and tear free.
ALL HAIR MUST BE UP FOR REHEARSAL AND RECITAL!
All hair should be in a bun on rehearsal and recital day. Please at least pull their hair half way up
or partially back if it is too short to go into a bun. If you have a tiny dancer, just make sure their hair is pulled out of their face.
VIDEOS AND FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
Video cameras are PROHIBITED during the recital performances so as not to distract the dancers on stage or the guests seated
around you. A professional video will be taken of each recital show by CA VIDEO PRODUCTIONS and will be available for
order/purchase in the theater lobby. Refer to the Newsletter if you would like to purchase the DVD online. Flash photography is
PROHIBITED during the recital performances. You may take photos without a flash from your seat. Please do not walk to the stage to
take pictures. This is dangerous for the dancers performing on stage as well as distracting to the guests around you trying to watch
FLOWERS AND GIFTS
Flowers and gifts for students are welcome at the recital, but should not be presented to the dancer backstage. Please wait until your
child is through dancing to present the flowers or gifts. We would hate for you to lose their treats! We will have a few gifts for to
purchase in the lobby while supplies last.
DO NOT MESS WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPS OR COSTUMES
This is a top directive of any backstage situation. Playing with or moving someone else’s props or costume pieces always results in
one of the following: A) items will not be in the correct place when they are needed, stalling the show or leaving someone without, B)
items get broken, torn, damaged, stalling the show or leaving someone without, C) someone being rather upset with you. If the prop
or costume is not yours, don’t touch it! Even if you think it’s in the wrong place and are trying to help, you should just tell the person
to whom it belongs or an appropriate adult.
Applause is appreciated. Do not yell names or approach the stage at any time.
Most importantly, enjoy the performance and compliment your dancer when the show is finished.
LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, DO NOT ARGUE, BE NICE!
Last but not least, it is important to be courteous and respectful toward others, especially during a performance and rehearsal.
Students and parents attending rehearsal and recital should behave in a respectful, disciplined, polite manner towards peers, parents
and ALL Mobile Bay Dance Academy employees. This includes the teachers, parents, and others who are helping backstage at
rehearsal and recital. There are people who have been designated as helpers, they are there to help make the performance run
smoothly. If you are instructed to do something or go somewhere, asked to quiet down, or are otherwise asked to respond to a
request – just do it! Any rude behavior or offensive language will not be tolerated from students or parents.
It is not difficult to be polite, if you cannot be polite, you will be asked to leave.
We love all of our sweet dancers and want this to be an enjoyable experience for everyone!
